The Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 has an impressive history of racing. With its powertrain and durable features, it can handle a variety of terrains and persevere in races.
By August of 2019, the Colorado ZR2 had competed in 11 Best in the Desert races and was one of just four vehicles to complete them all. Since the model was first revealed in 2017, Chad Hall has been driving the off-road racing truck.
As a result of the races, Chevrolet has gained the knowledge needed to further enhance the Colorado with different parts, helping the truck withstand off-road conditions. The Colorado ZR2 has received numerous upgrades and now offers skid plates, rock sliders and an Autotrac®transfer case for 2020. A 3.6-liter V6 engine powers the truck, though a Duramax® 2.8-liter Turbo-Diesel engine is also available.
“In off-road racing, your speed comes from your suspension, not your engine. Usually, when you modify the suspension on a stock truck, the rest of the truck can’t keep up with it,” said Chad Hall. “However, the Colorado is such a great platform, everything seems to work at the same level.”
